Holyoke Fire examiners with the State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the cause of the fire. HOLYOKE - A fire broke out in an abandoned five-story building Sunday morning. The fire, which started in the basement, was reported at 7:48 a.m. at 291 Main St. Holyoke Fire Department examiners are working with the State Fire Marshal's Office to investigate the cause of the fire, Capt. Kevin Cavagnac said. When firefighters arrived, flames were coming out of windows and there was heavy smoke coming from the building. People gathered outside told firefighters there may be three people inside, he said. While one crew began extinguishing the blaze, a second group of firefighters searched the building.
