LONGMEADOW -- Safety upgrades at the railroad crossing where a DPW foreman was killed in a March train collision are included in MassDOT's fiscal 2018 work plan, Town Manager Stephen J. Crane said Wednesday. The update came a day before the six-month anniversary of the March 14 crash. Warren P. Cowles, 59, was plowing snow at the Tina Lane and Birnie Road crossing when his town truck was hit by a northbound Amtrak train clearing snow from the tracks.
