Last week's record-breaking warm weather ushered in a number of signs of early spring, including the arrival of a number of freshwater ducks, migrant turkey vultures, and fish crows appearing in places where they have been absent all winter, and small groups of red-winged blackbirds and common grackles at several sites. More unusual was the appearance of two mew gulls at Kings Beach on the Nahant-Lynn town line; one of the gulls was the same Icelandic-banded gull seen there last winter.
