The mosquito control project, part of the State Reclamation and Mosquito Control Board, developed a tire removal program as a way to eliminate breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Water collects inside tires that are placed flat on the ground and stacked, creating standing pools for mosquito larvae to hatch. Crews removed 4,617 tires, including 3,936 from a former auto repair business in Norwell.
